Mead brewing
The mead is such an ancient drink, that it's original name medhu
occurs in all Indo-European languages. Meaning:
mead, honey, sweet, drunkenness and bliss or delight.
All suggest that it is the first form of fermented alcoholic beverage,
which was available to a man before he controlled agriculture.
People labelled the beverage as a drink of the gods,
a donor of knowledge and poetry,
a poison of healing and immortality...
Later, the mead was drunk with great popularity especially in northern regions,
where it was more difficult to grow crops for a beer or wine production.
Therefore, in the Nordic countries, inns were called mead halls.
In Edda, we read about mead in a song, where the creation of mead is captured,
and how people obtained mead from Odin.
At a time, when Europe was dominated by the new faith,
the beverage was mainly made by monks.
Mead was equivalent to beverages like beer or wine
until the 13th century, then an interest in it weakened.
Probably due to global warming and the possibility of vine growing,
or with the discovery of distilled alcohol. Unfortunately,
today the mead is rather an unusual choice of alcohol beverage.
One of Dušan Matuška's hobbies is mead brewing,
deals with it for about 4 years. At the festival, you will
participate in his creation and learn more about this old craft.

Meeting weaving
„... and this one is worn by men. Its name is gamakala,“ says Mamo,
priest of the Kogi tribe, pointing at a white bag.
„How many bags will I sew and for who?” I ask.
„Make yourself clear about what you want. Otherwise, you won't find happiness,“
says Saha, daughter of the Moon.
Is it possible to live simply and comfortably on Earth?
Who are people of my kind? Such questions started in 2010
the wandering of Monika Michael with the Kogi tribesmen.
Since then, she has been with them on the road everywhere and always.
They live in northern Colombia, in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
They say it is the heart of the world, and they know what they mean by it.
We live in the heart of Europe. Do we know what that means
when we say it sometimes?
Kogi women weave bags of natural fibers.
They sew a dream of the world into them,
and alter what no longer serves the life.
They are sending us some.
People have learned to think in one way only,
so it is not worth explaining what we are doing.
We sew bags instead. It is the art of indigenous women.
Those, in which they weave the dream of the world, are called Gama.
And then there are those that mean a journey - those are Sugamé.
When a person does something that disturbs a balance,
an indigenous woman takes sewing
and weaves her knowledge into a bag.
Weaving is the foundation of the spiritual practice
of Kogi women. But men also learn it.
To be able to break into the art of spinning the dream of the world
at least for a while at the festival, you will need:
- yarn of natural material (e.g. linen, hemp, nettle, cotton, wool)
- a large-eared needle or a crochet hook.
There is some story-telling waiting for you at the meeting,
as well as a space for questions and answers,
peace, silence and everything that will be born of the silence.

Blacksmith workshop
Jan Šmakal will present you the black craft of smithery.
He will provide you with information about how to make tools for everyday life,
or how to keep them fit. During a day you try the craft yourself
or let your older kids try it. Don't forget to bring
knives or other tools for repairing and regrinding.
Blacksmithing is an ancient craft that used to be everywhere,
at every step, at every corner in the country.
For the simple reason of usefulness for our agricultural culture.
It connects all elements, and therefore more sensitive of us can feel
a kind of mysticism that subconsciously attract us.
It can be a path to self-sufficiency even today, for it is a craft
in its pure form, which didn't change for thousands of years.
All it takes are simple tools in combination with mind, heart and body.
You can notice, that the way back to the roots leads us
to the ground and land, we live on. Leads to the cultivation
of plants that give us a livelihood.
As the science about metals deepened its experience,
it was constantly splitting and specialized into individual sectors,
in which masters penetrated deeper into details.
They also penetrated into the experiences,
which if they disappeared from the world with their deaths,
our culture would live differently. In light of this awareness,
it is clear that metallurgy is a powerful science.
Therefore, it is necessary to approach it
with an open heart and mind.
